“Stop! Stop! Take a halt now and save me, I beseech you!” cries our ailing planet. But, unfortunately, our planet’s pleadings seem to have fallen on the dumb ears of man. Billions of years ago, our planet Earth was an absolute paradise, wholly crowned with the beauty of nature. But in the 21st century, the ecological balance of nature has gone topsy-turvy, and the planet is presently undergoing severe turmoil, all just because of man’s selfish motives and greed. With the pace of increasing time in the hourglass, man’s cravings and requirements are also increasing, and to satisfy his desires, man has heartlessly performed several actions that have primarily harmed Earth in many ways. One of the most disastrous consequences of man’s deeds that has been detected is climate change.

Earth, the paradise, has transformed into a complete hell. The lush green forests have turned into grey concrete jungles, and havoc is created in almost every corner of the globe. Driven by the lust to achieve advancement, development, and progression, people seem to have forgotten the root ethics; they have forgotten their responsibilities of safeguarding the environment and have become mere slaves of money and wealth. One tree, two trees, three trees — all are being mercilessly struck down, and the numbers are increasing rapidly. Man has been blindfolded and is unable to witness the drastic damage he has caused and continues to cause to the planet. The green cover is being wiped away for the sheer sake of building skyscrapers one after the other. Flyovers and roads are being built in the sea, mountains are being scraped off to build roads, and what not? We have had enough of human settlements. Now, let’s take a halt and begin paying our requisite attention towards the critical condition of the planet. Deforestation, burning of fossil fuels, excessive transport usage, exploitation of natural resources, and various other human activities have majorly contributed to the solemn issue of the ongoing climate change.

Today, climate change has emerged as a thriving threat to mankind, as its conspicuous effects are being constantly rejected. As per recent research and reports, climate change has raised major concerning issues like rising temperatures, melting of ice caps that have led to rising sea levels, soil degradation, health risks, loss of species, food and water insecurity, economic impact, ecosystem variations — and the list is never-ending.
It’s high time now; we must wake up from our deep slumber and do our bit so that we do not leave behind a barren desert but a better planet for the coming generations. So, let’s unite to increase the green cover by planting a tree at least once a week, bringing changes in our diet to reduce our carbon footprints, thoughtful usage of vehicles, and by contributing to social practices like donating and showing up for indigenous organizations to support climate action.

Let’s embark on this journey of returning our planet to its glory. Ask not what nature has done for you; ask yourself, what have you done for it?
